March 8th was a colourful day in India, marked by Holi, the festival of colours. Indians across the subcontinent celebrate the arrival of spring by playfully throwing colourful powder and water at each other.
The children at TARA too were caught up in the fun, smearing colourful powder on TARA's Children and staff, and organising water fights. They were a sight to behold, with their faces and clothes stained red, orange, yellow, blue and green!

Tara Tots, our home for children aged 2 to 10 recently celebrated its 11th anniversary on February 1st.
It was an exciting day, celebrated not just by the little ones, but also the older boys and girls, most of whom started out at TARA Tots. The celebrations brought back wonderful memories for them.
To mark the occasion, the Tots had prepared a show, complete with dancing, singing and silent sketches that deeply touched the audience. The children then introduced themselves one by one and told the audience in their own words what they liked about TARA and all the things they wanted to learn or how they could improve this year. In return, TARA staff members praised each child for his or her abilities and the progress that each one had made. Needless to say, both children and adults were deeply touched.
We would like to thank all of you who have given us your moral and financial support during these eleven years. It is thanks to you that we are able to offer the children placed at TARA Tots a safe and family-like environment where they can grow and realize their potential. |

Eye screening at TARA Outreach Centre
|
|
|
In line with our efforts to improve child protection, we launched a new health service on 9th September 2022 at TARA Outreach Centre which offers day care services.
In March, the children registered at our centre were given eye screening tests. Eye screening services are important because the children come from vulnerable families with very limited access to health care. The screening service offers comprehensive and quality care for the children.
Access to quality health care is essential for their well-being and allows them to better focus on their studies.

Developing the potential of adolescents at TARA
Last February, we set up a communication commission made up of seven teenage volunteers from TARA. The aim was to provide them with training on skills such as graphic design and writing news articles and social media posts. The first two months focused on training and helping the young adults understand the different types of communications-related jobs. Clara, a French journalist taught the youngsters how to write news reports and explained how to create a podcast. Also on hand to speak to the youngsters were Nejma and Nabeel who spoke about their jobs as reporters at Babel Doc India. The next few months will involve meeting other professionals and on hands-on training. In fact, some of our publications will be produced by our seven budding writers. So look out for their work and don’t hesitate to send in your comments and encouragements. You can also click here to read their posts on Instagram and Facebook.
We are in the midst of organizing other committees and will keep you updated in the next edition of our newsletter.
If you work in communications and would like to participate in the committee or share your ideas with us, we would love to hear from you at: anne-elvire@taraindia.org

Charlotte and Manjeev graciously welcomed some of the children to their riding stable neer Delhi.
Being around animals, especially horses, allows children to develop empathy and to understand the responsibilities of caring for another living creature. Interacting with horses has many therapeutic benefits. A big thank you to Charlotte and Manjeev for giving the children an unforgettable experience. |
